The CFA Grooming Parlour

This dog's feet were unable to flex properly because the hair had matted between the pads.

Answer: Clip all the fur out from between the pads. Most breeds benefit from this procedure and its something that we check and do as part of our regular grooming routine.

A well groomed dog is a joy to look at. Every dog will benefit from a good bath and blow-dry at least every 6 to 8 weeks. He doesn't have to be a pedigree to look beautiful! You can help your groomer by regularly brushing your dog, remembering to get right down to the skin, especially behind the ears and in the 'armpits' where tangles can turn into matted fur. Even with professional de-matting combs, the removal of matts and tangles causes pain and discomfort to your dog.

Sometimes the only way to deal with an extremely matted dog is to clip him out completely (this doesn't hurt at all) and let the coat grow back again. You need to check your dog's nails every 4 weeks, ... remember, if you can hear him coming on a hard surface his nails are already too long.
